Best BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) provider in the Philippines
A BlackBerry mobile phone needs BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to activate the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), browse the internet and use applications that need network connection when WiFi is not available. There are two leading cellular networks in the Philippines that provide BIS: Globe Telecom and Smart Communications. Sun Cellular is also providing BIS but its performance is the same as Smart Communications because both are sharing base stations. So the question now is: which of the two networks is the best?
To compare the two networks, I subscribed for unlimited BIS worth 599 pesos a month: BB MAX for Globe Telecom and BB MONTH for Smart Communications. With this type of subscription, I can browse the internet, check/update my Facebook/Twitter app, send E-mails, chat using BBM, and use other applications that need network support.
Using my BlackBerry Bold 9790, I then tested both BIS providers in major locations in the Philippines: Manila, Davao City, Cebu City, Ormoc City, Butuan City, Surigao City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Sta. Rosa Laguna. And here’s what I’ve found out.
On browsing the internet, Globe Telecom displays the web page faster than Smart Communications, which most of the time fails to display the page. On sending and receiving e-mails, Globe Telecom gives a smoother performance than Smart Communications. On BBM chatting, Smart Communications does not do well as compared to Globe Telecom. Most of the time, Smart Communications fail to send the BBM message and that you have to resend it again and again. And finally, on using applications such as Facebook and Twitter, Globe Telecom displays the photos and news feeds faster than Smart Communications. Thus, with these observations, I can say that Globe Telecom is so far the best BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) provider in the Philippines.
