Japan, my first country to visit

Country: JAPAN

  • Date: June 28, 1999 to December 15, 1999
  • Purpose: Toshiba PCB Design Training

I never expected that I would have the opportunity to visit Japan in my lifetime. However, I believe it was my destiny, at the age of 23, to experience life in a first-world country for the first time and to be trained by Japanese engineers in the field of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology.

Toshiba Ome Works, Tokyo

Toshiba Ome Works, located in Tokyo, Japan, is the design center and manufacturing plant for Toshiba’s laptop and hard-disk drive products. Filipino engineers are often sent there for specialized training. The company provides food, accommodation, and a training allowance during the program.

My training focused on Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design for laptops. It was challenging at first because the software we used was in Japanese. However, I was very grateful that our trainer was excellent and supportive, which made the learning process much easier.

Fuji-Q Highland, Yamanashi

On August 5, 1999, we visited Fuji-Q Highland, an amusement park in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan, which opened on March 2, 1968. It is located near the base of Mount Fuji. The park features several roller coasters, including the famous “King of Coasters,” Fujiyama.

Fujiyama, which stands 79 meters tall and reaches speeds of up to 130 km/h, opened in 1996 and was the world’s tallest roller coaster at that time.

Tokyo and Yokohama City

On October 11, 1999, we spent the whole day exploring Tokyo and Yokohama City

Mt. Mitake Adventure, Ome City, Tokyo

On November 14, 1999, we went for a 10-kilometer biking to explore the beauty of the temples and waterfalls of Mt. Mitake.
